RICHARD R. HUFFMAN
1943 - 2005

Richard R. Huffman was involved with utility law for over thirty years. After serving as a Captain for the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps, he began work in 1973 as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Anchorage. In that capacity, he represented Anchorage Water Utility, Anchorage Telephone Utility, and Municipal Light & Power in both regulatory and employment law issues. After leaving the City Attorney's Office in 1975, he continued to represent Anchorage Water Utility in regulatory matters and the Municipality of Anchorage in employment matters and was appointed to the Board of Commissioners for Municipal Light & Power. Mr. Huffman represented a broad spectrum of businesses, including both telephone and electric utilities throughout the state, with a particular emphasis in employment law. He regularly appeared in both state and federal courts and practiced extensively before state and federal administrative agencies such as the EEOC, NLRB, and U.S. Department of Labor on employment matters.

In June 2005, Richard Huffman, a founding partner of the firm, died while on a kayaking trip in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Huffman's name remains in the firm's name and on its letterhead in honor of his memory and the profound influence he had on his colleagues and clients at the firm.
