EXPERIENCE
Emily Walker started working at the firm as a law clerk in August 2022 and, upon her admittance to the Alaska Bar in November 2022, became an associate attorney. Her practice at the firm will focus on regulatory, contractual, and corporate law matters for regulated and unregulated utilities.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Walker worked for the State of Alaska for 17 years, primarily as a tax auditor, including time as a lead auditor and supervisor. She oversaw the administration of a variety of tax types, including the alcoholic beverage, cigarette and tobacco, and marijuana taxes. In addition to her auditing duties, she was responsible for analyzing legislation and its impact on the tax programs she administered, drafting of regulations, and the implementation of new taxes. Ms. Walker also administered the electric and telephone cooperative taxes and worked with the RCA regarding the collection of regulatory cost charges. Ms. Walker was also responsible for ensuring Alaska’s compliance with the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.
Prior to her work for the Department of Revenue, she worked as a Deputy Clerk for the Alaska Court System.
EDUCATION
Ms. Walker received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Portland in 2005. In 2022 she graduated magna cum laude from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, completing law school while continuing to work full-time for the State of Alaska.
